Tordi

A village in the middle of nowhere, reached by a 3 hour jeep ride through bumpy dust tracks into the mountains of rural India….
Enroute we passed ‘tent’ villages and straw huts, mud townships with no water/electricity or anything at all, it’s amazing to see how people find ways of making a living out of nothing, the soil is parched, but cattle feed on every part, even rubbish.
Our village guest house was connected to power, the wealthy owner having returned to bring empowerment to his village by transforming his run down family inheritance and welcoming guests.
It was a beautiful remote spot, the family provided food/drinks-more curries (alas that night in the eternal battle of ‘woman versus curry’ food marginally won, but that was the first battle I’ve lost so far!)
We were taken on a guided tour of the village, where local men, women and children clustered around demanding a photo shoot, and welcoming us into their houses-seems v very odd after British reserve, but, as promised, they were genuinely pleased to see us, the children happy and full of smiles-the women tell us in India the children are taught to be happy however little they have, that is the most important moral.
Sitting in the sand dunes watching the sun set over rural India was magical, the only lights the odd headlight from the far away highway. That evening we ate dinner under the stars, whilst Romi (our ceo) recounted Indian beliefs and celebrations.
