Mumbai

Day train at 6am, arriving at 2pm, was an experience! I made good use of the chai waller, though also had to use the loos….still, chai was worth it!
Coming in through the slums is indescribable, though Romi assures us that the slums function well as an independent city, and certainly the abundance of satellite dishes is weird. But the sight of people literally living on the tracks, washing drying within inches of the wheels, children running wild, …so hard to see.
The city itself is massive, and manic. The hotel resembled the one in Delhi, i.e. a ***hole, as apparently its all available within the tour budget!
There wasn’t time to do much except find the Gateway to India, admire the luxury of the Taj hotel, and wander the crowded markets .
The contrast between the towering skyscrapers overhead and the grime and noise underneath is disconcerting, but despite having a room where I was literally lying above the busiest 24 hour junction in the area, I slept like a log-the horns must have a  lullaby all of their own.

  1. Hi Edwina,

Wow, it sounds like you are constantly chasing your tail! Still if you go all that way then you will want to see and experience as much as possible and the tour certainly sounds to be doing this.

I am glad that you are getting on with the food and that you are managing to sleep at night, it makes all the difference when you are being pushed so physically pushed.

We cant wait to see you back in the luxury of Kingston and all your pictures of your world adventure.

    Take care of yourself
